DATA OUTPUT

Data in the form of excel spread sheets are provided to users of the service.

Here we use a PDF example of our data output. Click here for the PDF file.

As you can see, the numbers 0, 1+, 2+, 3+, 4+ or 5+ correspond to band intensities of hybridization with target bacterial species. These data can be used in any number of statistical packages for final analysis. (For illustrative purposes, data were omitted for target species for which there was no hybridization signal (e.g., 0’s) in all samples.)

There are several observations to note in this example which compares bacterial profiles of subgingival plaque samples from subjects with periodontitis.

  1. Periodontitis profiles (subjects 1-5) were different from severe periodontitis profiles (subjects 6-10).
  2. Bacterial profiles in the same subject (#5) clustered together.
  3. There is higher microbial diversity in subjects with severe periodontitis.
